So, as you probably already know, we are the best independent fuel drain provider in the UK, when you put petrol in your diesel car your heart sinks and you think the worst! No, I've ruined my engine, my car will never be the same again!

We thought we would write up an article to explain how a fuel injection system works so you get to know more about what happens when you add fuel to your car. Read on and fear not, if you have put the wrong fuel in your car you'll be absolutely fine.

Diesel Injection Engines

Diesel engines work much differently to petrol engines that they use a method of direct injection where the diesel is injected into a special cylinder which in turn then controls the compressed air. So, this compression then helps to self ignite. This then turns the pistons and drives the engine.

What Happens When You Put Petrol in a Diesel Engine

Now, if you put petrol into a diesel engine then this can have big repercussions if left untreated. Generally speaking if you add a small amount of petrol to your tank then you'll be more than fine, but left untreated with large amounts of petrol a diesel engine can cause long term damage as the petrol will begin to act as a solvent and the metal to metal contact will create small particles of metal that can run through the engine and start to erode parts.

So, an small honest mistake where you can be rushing and not notice the colour of the fuel pump could potentially be very costly if the fuel is not drained properly, so if you do put petrol in your diesel car then we recommend you call a professional wrong fuel recovery company like Fuel Doctor to drain the contaminated fuel from the tank, lubricate the engine and get you on your way with the right fuel.
